Ali + Curtis | Jarvie, Alberta

From the moment Curtis let me know that him and Ali were engaged and if I’d like to photograph it, I was ecstatic.  It was an instant hell yes.  I have known Curtis my entire life – we have partied, adventured in every old relic he has purchased, and even travelled together .. He was one of the very few friends to meet up with me in Vancouver when I was in photography school way back when and the list goes on.  He may be the most carefree person I know, always up for an adventure.  The amount of friends this guy has is a true testament to his character.  He’s quite electric.

  In came Ali.  Again .. someone whom I have known for many many years .. and the missing piece to Curtis’ puzzle.  Ali is ALWAYS down for a good time, she’s sweet, funny as hell, a hard worker, loves her family and makes Curtis smile.  These two briefly dated in high school, until Curtis left for the big city .. and when you’re a country kid heading into the big city, one must scope out all of the options (not that it always works out haha).  Many years went by and as life would have it .. these two were brought back together a few years ago.

I got to spend some time with these two in Mexico last year, and again having them in front of the camera.  They are truly a solid couple.  She loves hunting, he loves farming, they love their pups, their incredible solar home nestled in the forest, their families and their friends.  Every bit of this was incorporated into their day .. and it was a hell of a celebration.

I must touch base on Ali’s dress.  Her mom wore this dress in 1974!!!!!!  She had a few alterations made (cut the sleeves shorter, made the v in the front and the back a bit more prominent) to make it her own and voila … In 12 years, I have NEVER once had a bride wear her moms dress, so what a beautiful tribute to her mom.  I had been anticipating seeing this dress since their engagement session and Ali wore it with pride.    Lastly – that bouquet was also the heaviest arrangement I have also ever held ..
