I kicked off 2018 with a wedding for someone super special in my life. Matt and I are cousins. Nine months apart and the two oldest grandkids in our family. We have shared many of memories as we lived together in a pretty slick basement suite in Edmonton, where we owned two beta fish (you know where that story ends), terrible decor, and a landline phone. Much to my success, I always set myself up with roommates who knew their way around the kitchen because I could never really find time to cook .. He was the ideal roommate.
Moving forward in our lives, we of course always found ourselves sitting somewhere discussing life – where we would be, where we would go .. when Matt would ever finish school (he’s now an incredible school teacher), and who we would marry. I had threatened him endlessly that I was going to put him online because the world was missing out on this extraordinary human being while he was consuming his life with making childrens lives so full with his brilliant mind and creativity as well as his part time gig of acting .. and all the 1000 other things he is up to in a week. I quite literally involved much of the family last Easter to make a list for me to get on my threats .. I was going to throw him into the sea of dating whether he liked it or not. 😉
Last summer, he travelled down the longest, bumpiest, crazy dusty road to witness Shawn and I get married, and of course to come on my whitewater rafting stagette excursion the day before. THE DAY AFTER OUR WEDDING … before I even got back to civilization, he met Jen. As life would have it .. he really didn’t want to leave the Tinda, but he had forces clearly pulling him to other places for obvious reasons. I am quite sure that I talked to him as soon as I got back and was quickly informed he had found the one. I was sure he was full of shit. I got to meet Jen at Christmas, and to see that guy smile as large as he did, had me so proud and so elated that he had found the one that made his heart skip a beat.
You know when you know and I knew exactly what he was calling me for earlier this year. Being asked to photograph a moment we had talked SO much about with each other was an honor.
So to the two of you and your little ones. Take care of each other and love each other like crazy. Welcome to our family Jen (and your three sweeties), we love you all. xoxox
