As 2015 ended and 2016 rolled on in, I knew it was going to be an adventure filled year with some pretty rad people. The first wedding set the bar PRETTY high — on a boat, in Skagway Alaska. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. The Alaska Highway and all its beauty is something everyone must see, in an out of the Yukon and BC, Liard Hotsprings, the wildlife, OH I could go on and on. With my entire family in tow, it was a trip of a lifetime.
Here are a FEW highlights of my year.
It remains a conversational piece – the drive, the wedding, the adventure. Dustin + Loni – thank you for bringing us to one of my now, absolute favorite places.
Rocky and Bombur made their way into our lives earlier on in the year and filled it with more joy than I could have ever imagined. They have been in MANY family sessions, a parade, and now my new obsession – driving. They may only be 34-36 inches tall, but they have a personality twice the size of a regular horse, and they make your heart burst at the seams.
I photographed two beautiful grads in southern Alberta – one being our oldest niece.
Toured around Yellowknife, NWT for three days before I photographed Josh + Shay’s beautiful wedding.
GORGEOUS love filled weddings that warmed my very being. I write it 1000x I feel, but each time I say it, I mean it .. they were all catered around one thing, love .. and I was honoured to have been asked to document that.
Emotional moments – those father daughter dances get me everytime 😉
I spent a few days in the Okanagan celebrating with Mark + Lindsay, as well as catching up with my old roommates from my college days in Victoria .. falling on the exact week that I graduated from photography school TEN YEARS AGO. Ten years ago this past summer I was floating in a dingy wondering what I would be doing in ten years from then (actually, wondering where to even begin looking for work!). I’m pretty excited to see where the next ten years take me!
I celebrated love with so many beautiful people – engagements, anniversaries.
I zipped up this stunners dress in a hallway at a golf resort, drove the golf cart out to her love for their first look and photographed the most relaxing wedding shoot. No party, no time restraint, no hustle and bustle. Them. That was all that mattered.
New beginnings. New babies. New families. Many, many familiar faces I got to see again this year.
I met these two. Their love story started on a plane and I am pretty thankful they had me to document that love for one afternoon.
My baby sister got married.
Four weeks after Rocky and Bombur joined our family, the two littles on the left, Daisy and Dallas joined our family. My dream of having a mini was complete. I just now had four to maintain!
I relaxed in Jasper at *almost the end* of my season with these two for three days, eating tasty food, snowboarding, and photographing their engagement.
I spent another year with this guy (going on seven!!). He teaches me, supports me, loves me, and makes every year, truly amazing. October – December is always a true test, as I am hanging on mentally by one tiny thread, on the brink of falling into a coma and really just roaming around like a zombie. If you have one of these supporters in your life .. don’t.ever.let.them.go.
My sister (who did this session for us) will be joining forces with me a bit more this year, so I am super excited to showcase more of her work here on my website. Stay tuned for that adventure 😉
We spent the entire month of December celebrating Christmas with our families. Shawn’s parents brought the entire family to Vegas, we travelled to Ft. McMurray for my side, and brought in the new year with my family skating, sleigh rides behind the mini’s, horse rides, playing games, eating and enjoying every second with each other (I will blog that stuff in due time!).
There are a pile of things I’d love to write about (but let’s be real right now, this blog alone has taken me weeks to put together), but the most important thing I need to say is thank you. Thank you for being here, for reading the few words I am able to muster up time after time .. hopefully just skipping over that and heading right to the images, to my clients whom so many become family, and to all my fans – the ones who follow, who stop me in very random places to tell me they love my work and make me blush, who leave me humbling messages, comments, likes – you don’t go unnoticed. I love where this takes me each year, the people I get to meet and the stories I get to tell.
So in amongst chaos in this crazy world, I hope my photographic storytelling will continue to bring you a bit of brightness, laughter and happiness .. Happy new year to all of you.
